The Grid's Schedule Moved Up Five Years

MISO's planners keep saying the same thing in different ways: the load is arriving early. Gigawatts of data centers landing in 2026 and 2027, demand running years ahead of the projections the current plans were built on, and an $8.8 billion transmission plan headed for a board vote. Engineering schedules can compress when the money shows up. The land-rights schedule cannot -- it runs on title chains, kitchen-table negotiations, and county recording offices. Which means the parcel work just became the critical path, and the utilities that treat it that way will be the ones that hit their dates.
