The Easement Outlives Everyone Who Signed It
A right-of-way project runs eighteen months. The easements it produces encumber that land for the working life of the line -- half a century and more. Everyone who negotiated them will retire, the landowners will sell, and the project team's shared drive will be an archaeology site. Then a rebuild crew, a vegetation manager, or a landowner's heir asks what the agreement actually says -- and the answer had better not live in a banker's box.
